Hamburg (idw) – Eine kohlehydratarme, eiweißreiche Diät wirkt sich bei übergewichtigen Diabetikern deutlich besser auf die diastolische Herzfunktion und die Insulinresistenz aus als eine häufig empfohlene fettarme Kost. Das zeigt eine in München, Isny und Mainz durchgeführte aktuelle Studie. „Damit könnte diese Ernährungsform die Entwicklung einer Diabetes-bedingten Herzmuskelschwäche und des metabolischen Syndroms verhindern oder zumindest verzögern“, so Studienautorin Dr. Helene von Bibra vom Städtischen Krankenhaus Bogenhausen, München.
Zwei Gruppen von jeweils 16 Diabetikern mit Übergewicht wurden im Rahmen eines dreiwöchigen Rehabilitationsprogramms entweder auf eine fettarme (55 Prozent Kohlehydrate, 25 Prozent Fett und 20 Prozent Eiweiß) oder eine kohlehydratarme (25 Prozent Kohlehydrate, 45 Prozent Fett, 30 Prozent Eiweiß) Diät gesetzt. Beide Gruppen trainierten täglich zwei Stunden.
Beide Diäten zeigten ähnliche Erfolge, was den Gewichtsverlust und die Verbesserung des Cholesterinspiegels angeht. Die Gruppe mit der kohlehydratarmen Diät wies aber deutliche Verbesserungen bei der Insulinresistenz, den Triglyzerid- und Blutdruckwerten und der diastolischen Herzfunktion auf.
